I went to Huntington Gardens in January with Liza. The gardens are amazing and I would suggest that anyone that lives in the LA area go check this place out. Liza and I checked out almost all of the gardens and even spotted the Pasadena Parrots. I thought I would recap some of my favorite photos from the trip.
This one is from the Rose Garden. It’s one of the first gardens we visited and it seemed to be a little past the perfect time to visit. I really like the light on the rose, I just wish those people weren’t walking in the background.
This photo is from the Japanese Garden. I think this is the same place they filmed the massage/Lucy Liu scene in Charlie’s Angels. I really like the angle of the bridge in this photo. It was tough to get this photo without any people in it, but I think it turned out really well. Maybe I should Photoshop the brown gross water out.
I forget exactly what type of trees these were, but the bees LOVED them. There were probably hundreds if not thousands of bees around the three of these trees. Normally I hate bees, but these ones didn’t want to have anything to do with any people, they were busy with their business so Liza and I relaxed underneath the tree and I was able to get lots and lots of cool photos of the bees landing on the flowers. I picked this one out of the many many photos I took of these bees since I managed to get two bees in flight as well as one hanging out on the flower in the middle.
This is from the grass next to the tress in the last photo. The depth of field turned out great considering the limited control on my camera. The two little flowers look like they’re lost in an expanse of green grass, poor guys.
This flower looks so perfect it almost looks fake.
I didn’t even realize I got the bee in this photo until I uploaded the pictures to my computer. I guess its better to be lucky than good. This is probably one of my favorites from all of these photos. It looks like a real photographer took it…
This is another photo I kind of blindly took. We were crossing a little bridge and I thought the little stream looked cool. Once again, a little luck goes a long way.
I love the blue sky background against the bright red-orange of these flowers. They were growing out of the middle of a cactus in the Desert Garden and they looked amazing.
More bees on pink flowers. This was some kind of bush in the Desert Garden. Once again the bees loved it, not as much as the tree, but still a fair amount of bee-love.
I wish there were better light for photo. Its a bit dark, but still turned out really well. Its tough to capture those quick-as-hell hummingbirds right up next to the flower. You should see how many blurry pictures it took to get this one.
All in all it was a great trip and I’m really hoping I get a chance to go back to the gardens in the summer and see a completely different set of plants flowering. You can look at all of these photos plus a couple more at the SmugMug gallery.
